The Folklore of Birds

Globe Pequot
Nonfiction, Foklore
***

Description

Around the world, people have long been fascinated by birds, often granting them peculiar powers or personalities. Some were majestic messengers of the gods, while others were signs of death and demons. Some were bold warriors, and others lazy tricksters. Some were good luck, some were bad. The author describes various birds, with an emphasis on the trivia, legends, and folklore surrounding them.

Review

I found this at less than half price. For what I paid, it isn't terrible. I had expected more in the way of legends and folklore, which is why I purchased it to begin with - I was looking for a cheap source of story ideas. As it is, it is a fair collection, though I'd hoped for something more thought-provoking. Many of the articles seemed thin, and I know there has to be more bird lore out there that Martin didn't mention. Not bad, but not great.
