Description

The human body is a wonder of interconnected systems and structures, from the basic skeleton and muscles to the mysteries of the nervous system and endocrine glands. Using illustrations, including medical scans and X-rays, this book outlines the functions of the human body's various parts.

Review

I was actually looking for an artistic anatomy book when I found this in the discount shelves, but it's actually what it says it is: a reasonably thorough, if necessarily abridged, outline of what makes up a human being and how each part or system works (or fails to work, as it mentions diseases and other problems that prevent normal function.) It starts with a history of medicine and an overview of modern diagnostic and study methods, then goes through the body from the cellular level up and the skeletal system out (and in.) This proved to be a surprisingly accessible (for the most part) and informative reference, with plenty of explanatory diagrams and illustrations.
