As you approach the Harbyntil Palace gates, you see a lone figure standing in the shadows of the archway. A squat, gray-haired man, he wears the gold and blue livery of Harbyntil Palace, somewhat rumpled but still clean. He sits on a padded stool beside the entrance to the gatehouse, leaning against the pale marble walls as he flips through a book. As you draw near, he looks up, startled.
"Hm? Oh - one of you folk," he says, blinking as he fumbles with the book. You catch the title as he hastily closes it: 1001 Ways to Kill Time. "So, they finally opened things up, eh? Thought they'd never get around to it... Anyway, welcome to Harbyntil Palace. I'm Master Magein, palace guard... not that there's much call for a guard around here." He sighs, heaving himself off his seat with some effort. "I thought things would liven up a bit when the Regent agreed to this whole Hunt thing, but no. Since you're here, though, you might as well come in."
Magein pulls a large key ring from his belt and selects a golden key, using it to unlock the wooden door beside his stool. You are ushered into a high-ceilinged room with a large claw-footed desk, a few blue-cushioned chairs decorated with gold embroidery, and many bookshelves. He settles into the lush chair behind the desk, in front of a large diamond-paned window that looks out over the courtyard, and gestures for you to take a seat.
"Well, I suppose you'll probably be after a puzzle. They said seekers from Skyhaven would want puzzles... I managed to come up with a couple. You might - might - get something special if you figure them out." He winks enigmatically, rummaging in the desk drawers.
