You MUST understand that these rules apply
to everyone - even you! I don't care how you rationalize it or what your excuse is.
I don't care what your rules about your own art
are. This isn't your website, and these aren't your
creations. If you don't like Skyhaven's rules, please find another
cyberpet site to deal with. You do NOT
have the right to ignore these rules for ANY
reason!
.
-
Your site must not contain pornography, hate material, stolen graphics, "warez," or be
associated with illegal activities of any sort. You don't have
to have G-rated fluff, but try to keep it down to a PG-13 or lower
(minimal foul language, no graphic innuendo or gore... you get the
idea.)
.
-
Your site must be accessible without registering with
some third party. In other words, don't use them on your Neopets
site, Wizard Mansion, Virtual Horse Ranch, or other "exclusive" places. Fan
sites based on such places are okay. If I have to register with
anybody (free or not) to see the page you're going to post your
Skyhaven adoptee on, that is not okay. (Art theft is a big problem on many of those sites, and I
can't check out reports of art theft if I have to sign up with someone
to see it.)
.
-
Remote linking (or hotlinking) images from Skyhaven
no longer works, so don't even try it! Remote linking
means telling your website to access my website for a given picture,
instead of telling it to access a file on your own site. Save a copy
of the image you want to
your computer (right-click, then Save Picture or Save
As...), then
upload that copy to your own website. Need a free image host? Try Photobucket
( http://www.photobucket.com/
) or ImageShack ( http://www.imageshack.us/
.) Don't know how to upload graphics or link them
properly? Ask your site host, or go to HTML Goodies ( http://www.htmlgoodies.com
) and start learning.

The adoptable creatures are offered as-is. Don't resize or recolor them.
Don't use the images as the basis of your own creatures (as in, copying
an image and re-editing portions, then presenting it as your own
work.) This is a form of art theft, and
it's a very bad habit to get into if you ever want to be taken
seriously as an artist. Real artists take issues of copyright
and image ownership very seriously - one quick and easy way to kill
your reputation is to be caught stealing art. As for customized
creatures, I'd love to but I simply don't have time.
.
-
Skyhaven Adoptions is the only authorized provider of
the creatures within. This means you are
NOT to redistribute
or re-adopt them, use them as clip-art, make picture tubes
with them, make fonts with them, make web-sets with them, sell them,
make things using these images for sale, use them on Virtual Horse
Ranch, use them on Gaia...
you get the idea. If you see these images being used for any
unauthorized purpose, please contact me!

Are you paying attention? These rules apply to everyone! Yes, even you! I don't care if you think that
theft is a compliment, that you only steal artwork that you like. If you want to use art you
didn't create, find a nice clip-art site, or a site whose rules
specifically allow you to use their art. There are plenty of
them out there - I have links to several in the Links section. The rules of Skyhaven Adoptions, however, do not
allow this. So, to repeat: Do not re-adopt, redistribute, edit, or
recolor these images!
.
-
Give credit where credit is due - provide a link
to http://www.brightdreamer.com/skyhaven/skyhome.htm on the
same page as your adopted creature (or, at the very least, give credit
to Skyhaven Adoptions, then provide the link on your
Links/Credits page.) This goes to all of you using Skyhaven
images as MySpace avatars and such, too (yes, I know what you're
doing!) Link the picture, use one of the available Linking Graphics
buttons or banners, or use a text link. You might want to remind your site
visitors that they must come to Skyhaven to adopt their own
critter, and are not to simply take them from your site. Do NOT link
directly to the Main Adoption Lair or The Skyhaven Hunt!
.
-
Please, when signing the Adoption Registry, leave a valid,
working web address, or none at all! If you don't have your website up
yet, I suggest coming back later. All too often, people adopt a
bunch of critters with the intention of launching a site right away, and then it's three
months later and they're wondering where they got what creature from -
or why they bothered adopting dragons at all, because
their planned fantasy site has transformed into a Survivor fan page.
Nobody wants that.
.
-
To prove that you're not just skimming these rules, you must click on the
word "redistribute" in Rule 6 in
order to enter the adoption lairs. The link below is a dummy.
Devious, I know, but it helps ensure that these rules get read.
.
-
Remember, take only the adoptable creatures, awards,
and/or the linking buttons and images. Do not take the
background images or other pictures. Respect the labels on
images - I do tell you what ones aren't for adoption. If you
must have one of my backgrounds or some such thing, e-mail me and ask
for permission.
.
-
IMPORTANT - Skyhaven is a Click-And-Take Adoption site!
To adopt, go to the
Adoption Lairs and find the creature/s you wish to adopt.
Right-click on their image, and a little menu should pop up.
Chose "Save Picture As...", and save a copy of the image to
your own computer. Then, in your website, upload your saved
copy. Remember to provide a link back, and give credit to
Skyhaven Adoptions for the image. That's all there is to
it! No need to e-mail me or wait for approval or anything!
If you've seen a Skyhaven critter on another site and can't find it
here, remember that I rotate colors and upgrade templates once in a
while, so it may be retired. If
you have problems with Internet Explorer saving everything as bitmaps
(*.bmp) files, check this link: IE
Saving Images As Bitmaps
All backgrounds and images, unless specifically noted
otherwise, are © TBW
ONLY adoptable creatures and designated awards or certificate
images may be taken
If you feel you absolutely must have a background or special image, please
ask first!
