Beautiful Basilisks

This image of the rare Reticulated White Basilisk displays clearly the exaggerated crest and serrated spinal ridge of the adult male, and the distinctive markings of the race.   We owe a great debt to the artist, the late Kia Vanhard and her revolutionary "mirror bait" technique which allowed her to use live, wild models.  Her long run of luck with these amazing creatures ran out while finishing this piece, when the frustrated White, having repeatedly failed to petrify her mirror image, finally caught sight of the real artist working behind her blind.

The famed art critic Scalivon Sandbrush, best known for his earlier volume Amazing Amphipteres,  offers a visually stunning study of the often-overlooked basilisk, highlighting the creature's appearance in art and literature throughout recorded history.  Each entry is punctuated with extensive notes on the creatures, including a list of famed victims of the basilisks' stony stare.  An oversized volume that makes a great coffee table book - or, in a pinch, a great coffee table.
