Pearls Before Swine: BLTs Taste So Darn Good...
(A Pearls Before Swine collection)
Stephan Pastis
Andrews McMeel
Fiction, Comics
*****

DESCRIPTION: Innocent Pig, his often-devious friend Rat and a number of other odd characters dodge puns and rampant stupidity in the nationally-syndicated comic strip.

REVIEW: This is the funniest comic strip I have read in ages, far more original and clever than most. No PC, watered-down, recycled humor here - and the puns are truly outlandish. Great fun!

Frequently Asked Questions: An Unshelved collection (Bill Barnes and Gene Ambaum, Comics - The staff of a public library deals with the often-clueless public and recommends many real-world books)
Thank God for Culture Clash: A Candorville collection (Darrin Bell, Comics - A collection of Candorville comic strips, with sharp humor on politics, race, life, and more)
Help is On the Way: A Basic Instructions collection (Steve Meyer, Comics - Humorous instructions and advice for life's challenges, from calling in sick to work to effectively conveying a message to one's younger self through time travel)
Close Encounters of the Worst Kind: A Brewster Rockit collection (Tim Rickard, Comics - The clueless captain Brewster Rockit and his dysfunctional crew man the orbital space station R. U. Sirius)
Rip Haywire and the Curse of Tangaroa! (Dan Thompson, Graphic Novel - Based on the Rip Haywire comic strip, action-hero Rip and his mostly-trusty crew set out in search of a cursed treasure)

Pearls Before Swine: This Little Piggy Stayed Home

*****

DESCRIPTION: The second collection of Pearls Before Swine comic strips.

REVIEW: Just as funny as the first collection. Our local paper started carrying Pearls starting somewhere in the middle of this book, so I'd seen several of these before, but they're still hilarious.

Sgt. Piggy's Lonely Hearts Club Comic
(A Pearls Before Swine collection)
Stephan Pastis
Andrews McMeel
Fiction, Comics
*****

DESCRIPTION: A treasury of Pearls Before Swine comic strips, annotated by Stephan Pastis. It describes the origins of the strips and the characters, plus many trivial facts and commentary by the creator.

REVIEW: I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love this strip! The insights are interesting, too, providing some background to the journey of Pearls and its twisted cast.
