Painting Dragons in Watercolor
Paul Bryn Davies
Search Press
Nonfiction, Art
****

DESCRIPTION: Using watercolors and some gouache (an opaque painting medium similar to watercolors), Paul Bryn Davies creates several dragons via step-by-step lessons, also offering tips on painting original, expressive dragons of your own.

REVIEW: These are bright, lively, and fun dragons, though his excessively human eyes and somewhat similar overall look cost it a point. He could've used a bit more in the way of dragon anatomy, too, as the most believable fantastic creatures have some sort of a solid bone and muscle structure under their skin. That aside, I found it an inspiring book to page through, for all that watercolors and I have never gotten along particularly well.
