Make Your Own Paper Dragons
Sean Brand and Ivan Hissey
Barnes & Noble
Nonfiction, Art
***

DESCRIPTION: This kit includes booklets on dragons and dragon art projects - including sketching, painting, and origami - plus watercolors, sketch pencils, an eraser, and paper (sketching and origami.)

REVIEW: The cover image is a bit misleading; none of the projects remotely resemble this fellow. The dragon information booklet seems sketchy (no pun intended) and minimally researched. The art book is somewhat better, though the included sketch paper is apparently just white origami-sized paper and the watercolors are the cheap little cakes that I, for one, can never get to work well; attempting to use on regular, cheap sketch paper without it getting all soggy and muddy (not to mention wrinkled and waterlogged) is not a challenge I'd wish on anyone. In its favor, the packaging is nice, and there's a handy little box to store the art supplies in as well as the booklets. It's a nice enough little self-contained kit if you find it for a bargain price, but hardly the be-all and end-all of dragons or art.
